The Buttermere Camino

The Buttermere Camino is a mini camino, or pilgrimage, that was initiated by the Grasmoor Mission Community (GMC) in 2021. The route joins the 3 churches in Lorton Vale and Buttermere, begining at St Cuthbert Lorton and ending at St James Buttermere, journeying via St Bartholomew Loweswater.

This website is a growing resource for those who wish to undertake the Buttermere Camino, and will be enhanced over the coming months. As well as providing several route options for the Camino, we will provide some reflections for you if you would like to use them on your journey up the valley.

If you would like to walk the Buttermere Camino with a group of fellow pilgrims, the GMC organises a pilgrimage each year. The details for 2025 can be found here. Poiema Retreat House and Community are also running a related residential retreat.

We hope you find these resources useful and that you encounter God in your pilgrimage.

If you find the Buttermere Camino enjoyable and fancy a similar but more extensive challenge, you may be interested in the Lakeland Pilgrimage.
